I recently captured a very special atmosphere near the “Morgensonne” (Morning Sun). After a very hot day, a thunderstorm passed over the Ore Mountains during the night, and in the early morning, the last fog patches lifted from the 832-meter-high Pöhlberg.
Who hasn’t seen this image (unless they have no interest in mountains at all)? The village church of St. Sebastian in Ramsau is almost world-famous due to its location. A small bridge over the Ramsauer Ache is not far from the church and serves as the perfect photo spot to capture the “postcard view” forever.
Recently, I was on a hiking trip with a group in the Chiemgau Alps. The area around Reit im Winkl is especially well-suited for “Alpine beginners” to make their first experiences in alpine terrain. A beautiful route leads from the Winklmoosalm over the Dürenbachalm to the 1,765-meter-high Dürenbachhorn.
The area around the 1,215-meter-high Fichtelberg near Kurort Oberwiesenthal is always worth a visit. In the summer months, sheep peacefully graze on the steep mountain slopes, and on a clear day, hikers or cyclists enjoy a wonderful view of the town and its surroundings.
From the train station in Kovářská (Schmiedeberg) in the Bohemian part of the Ore Mountains, there is a great view of the 1,244-meter-high Klínovec (Keilberg). The railway line runs from Vejprty (Weipert) to Chomutov (Komotau) and is currently only used for tourist traffic on weekends.
The best way to brew coffee is still over an open fire. Just place the pot in the fire and let it sit in the embers. After a few minutes, the water will boil up vigorously. Then simply add coffee grounds and enjoy.
Today, I had something vegetarian: hearty vegetables with mushrooms cooked in a cast iron pan over a campfire. It doesn’t always have to be meat! A well-seasoned vegetable stir-fry can be a real delight, especially on warm summer days when lighter meals are preferred.
The 1,097-meter-high Meluzína (Wirbelstein) in the Bohemian part of the Ore Mountains is definitely worth a visit. The ascent is relatively easy. From the top, there is a grand view of the Ore Mountains and into the Eger Valley.
Kurort Oberwiesenthal is Germany’s highest town. There are wonderful hiking trails around the town that are waiting to be explored. One can even hike cross-border. The Bohemian part of the Ore Mountains is always worth a visit.
The small village of Frohnau is located right next to Annaberg-Buchholz. Numerous hiking trails around the village offer the opportunity to explore the region’s mining history. The scenic beauty of the trails is also a delight.
