Today, we were looking for wild herbs out in the forest. It is cold outside, but little stinging nettles sprout hidden under the white snow.
You can find the fresh shoots right next to dead stalks on the ground. Push the snow aside near the roots. Probably you won’t find too many shoots yet, but it’s enough for a spicy herb butter for dinner.
Caution! As the name suggests, the stinging nettle stings – use a clean handkerchief, for example, to pick it.
Tip: The stinging hairs sting much less if you “knead” them in a clean cloth before eating.
Have fun!
