A natural monument of a special kind is located between Pernink (Bärringen) and Abertamy (Abertham) in the Bohemian part of the Ore Mountains.
Between 1956 and 2000, peat was extracted from the 12,000-year-old Bärringer Peat Bog (Perninské rašeliniště), with estimates of up to 900,000 cubic meters, often through ruthless trenching to a depth of seven meters. Only about 20% of the original peat bog remains.
The area was technically rehabilitated, and only in 2018 did restoration work on the water management begin, which was successfully completed in 2020.
The area is dominated by a large peat lake. There is a viewing platform and a nature trail on site.
